Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how HomeBrill (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores and shares personal information when you use the HomeBrill Platform and related services. This Policy is drafted with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) in mind, and also includes references to GDPR-style rights for users in certain jurisdictions.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information to operate the Platform, provide services, and comply with legal obligations.

A. Information you provide directly

  • Account registration: name, email, phone number, address, business name (for Contractors)
  • Profile details: photos, services offered, licenses, certifications, service area, rates, availability
  • Booking data: job descriptions, schedules, estimates, special instructions
  • Messages and attachments (photos, videos) exchanged on the Platform
  • Payment and billing information (processed by third-party payment processors)
  • Reviews and ratings you submit

B. Information collected automatically

  • Usage data (pages visited, search queries, device and browser info)
  • IP address, geolocation (approximate) used to show local providers
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies section below)

C. Information from third parties

  • Identity verification services, background-check providers, payment processors, analytics providers, and public directories.

2. How We Use Personal Information

We use data to:

  • Provide, operate and improve the Platform
  • Process bookings and payments and manage payouts
  • Communicate with Users and send transactional messages (confirmations, updates)
  • Verify Contractor credentials and perform identity checks where required
  • Resolve disputes (including collecting photos/evidence and preserving communication logs)
  • Prevent fraud and enforce our Terms
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to legal requests
  • Send promotional messages only with consent (opt-in), unless otherwise permitted by law

3. Dispute Evidence & Retention

  • When a dispute arises we will collect and store evidence (photos, messages, invoices, timestamps) necessary to review and resolve the matter.
  • Evidence submitted for a dispute will be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the dispute and to meet legal and regulatory requirements.

4. Sharing & Disclosure

We may share personal information with:

  • Contractors (to fulfill bookings)
  • Payment processors (Stripe or similar) and financial institutions for payment processing and payouts
  • Third-party service providers (hosting, analytics, identity verification) under contractual confidentiality obligations
  • Law enforcement, courts, or regulators when required by law
  • Potential acquirers or in connection with a corporate transaction (with prior notice where possible)

We never sell personal information for unrelated third-party marketing.

5. Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Platform, personalize content, analyze traffic, and improve services. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings; however, disabling certain cookies may affect functionality.

6. Security

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information. Examples include encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and periodic security testing. No system is 100% secure; in the event of a breach we will follow applicable notification obligations.

7. Data Subject Rights & Access

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including:

  • Correction of inaccuracies
  • Request deletion of your data (subject to legal exceptions)
  • Object to certain processing or request restriction
  • Portability of data (where technically feasible)

The Platform is not intended for users under 18. If we learn we have collected personal information of someone under 18 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete it.

10. Third-Party Links & Services

The Platform may contain links to third-party sites or services which have separate privacy practices. We are not responsible for their actions.

11. Retention

We retain personal data as long as needed to provide services and comply with legal obligations.

12. Changes to this Policy

We will post updates to this Privacy Policy on the Platform with a revised effective date. For material changes, we will provide prominent notice.
